Here Comes Summer
Sending May out with Sunshine, welcoming June and the start of Summer!!
Hand Sew Night is coming up on June 1st. It would be easy to miss it as the first Tuesday of the month is also the 1st of the month. . Hope we’ll see you there. The link is the same one as listed in the newsletter. If you don’t have it and would like to join us, send an email to tacomamqg@gmail.com. Guests are welcome!
DON’T MISS THIS ONE! We have a fabulous class coming up on Saturday, June 12th, from 9 am to noon, Carolina Oneto’s Organic Shapes. I’ve included a couple photos of her previous student’s work. This is NOT APPLIQUE!!
At our June 17th meeting, we will have a guest speaker, Patricia Belyea from Okan Arts. She will have the lion’s share of the meeting time to talk to us about quilt design.
We will also try to squeeze in a Sew and Tell for those intrepid souls who have finished their La Fin du Monde top……………….or in some cases, the whole quilt, the Market Totes and whatever else you’ve been working on—We may need to extend the meeting time!
If you want to sign up for the Sewing Room Swap, please fill out the form on the website (Look in Swaps and Challenges) and email to tacomamqg@gmail.com. Reveal is at the July meeting.
We’ve got the BOM’s up on the website thru September. The last quarter’s blocks will added soon. Take a look --you can pick and choose which blocks you want to make for our community quilts.
Icebreaker for May was “your fondest quilting memory” and it seemed like so many people spoke about a retreat event……………segue…………………into Retreat Information
The “new” Riptide Retreat Center in Shelton is booked for a mini retreat in August (6-8). We like to try it out and see what we think. This is a smaller than normal retreat, as there are only 8 beds, and meal are not provided. We are currently attempting to figure out how to make PayPal count to 8 and then stop. Assuming all goes well the sign up for this retreat will be up on the website Saturday morning (June 5th)
The TMQG RETREAT at Camp Burton on Vashon Island is still booked for November (19-21). We are waiting for confirmation and an updated contract, and will get information out to everyone as soon as possible. This is a bigger retreat with room for 20 people. All rooms have their own bathroom and meals are provided (and yummy) WOOHOO.
And as we already noted June is almost here and so it’s time again to nominate and vote on officers for Tacoma Modern Quilt Guild. We will hold elections in July. If you are interested in a position or just want to ask some questions, please reach out to us at Tacomamqg@gmail.com. Not ready to commit? How about joining a committee? We are always looking for people to help out.
