We love to host periodic Sew-Ins both in-person, around town or virtually on Zoom. Sew-Ins are a good opportunity to get together, hang out, and have fun! They are also a great opportunity for asking questions,
sharing your work, hanging out with friends, making new friends, and being in community with like-minded folks.
Since we often get questions about our Sew-Ins, we thought we'd answer some of them here.
Who can come? Everyone is welcome to our Sew-Ins. Sew-Ins are open to both Guild members and general community members alike.
Will you teach me to quilt? Our Sew-Ins are not meant to be instructional for new quilters. While questions do arise and techniques are often organically shared, our Sew-Ins are not meant to be a structured, educational time. If you need classroom time for new quilters, we suggest checking out the class offerings at Sew Hip.
What should I work on? The choice is yours -- machine work, hand work, ironing, cutting, fabric selection, project selection, etc. You can even work on something that is not quilted -- knitting, scrap booking, addressing holiday cards, whatever! You can even just come and sit and enjoy the company of others without working on anything.
What will be provided? Generally speaking, the Guild provides ironing stations (ironing surface, iron, spray bottle filled with water), cutting mats, and a few miscellaneous cutting rulers. The Guild will also make sure a first aid kit and sharps container are on hand. Tables and chairs are provided by the meeting location and you may need to set them up when you arrive. If you need help with this task, generally there are folks willing to help if you ask.
What should I bring? Bring anything and everything you need to complete your project. It is also a good idea to bring an extension cord, task lighting, a beverage and a snack or sack lunch.
Who can attend? Sew-Ins are open to everyone. Tables and seating are on a first-come, first-served basis and occupancy is limited by facility.
